    John Myers Myers began his writing career with historical novels and later produced several works of popular history, dealing in particular with pioneers and mythic figures of the Wild West. Amid these preoccupations he published his finest work, Silverlock (), which became a cult novel among science fiction and fantasy fans.

    He was born in Northport, Long Island, on January 11, ; his parents were John Caldwell Myers and Alice McCorry Myers. Myers showed himself an inveterate scribbler at high school and college. Reportedly he was expelled from one college for his part in writing and editing an iconoclastic monthly titled The Pariah. As a young man he travelled extensively through Europe and the USA, worked as a newspaperman for the New York World and San Antonio Evening News, and spent some time as an advertising copywriter; inevitably he served in the US army during World War II.     John Myers studied sculpture, painting, printmaking from to at Durham University's King's College in New Castle upon Tyne under the guidance of Richard Hamilton. It was a period of international recognition for British art and an era in which photography was being established as a major artistic and cultural force. After graduating, Myers began teaching at the Stourbridge College of Art, it was there that he developed an interest in photography.

    Myers' photographs from - explore the cultural landscape of housing developments, television sets, substations and other aspects of the suburban life. His photographs share the concerns of his American counterparts that formed the exhibition, New Topographics, yet also articulate an English sensibility.

    His photographs have appeared in numerous publications, including: Camera, Creative Camera, The London Magazine, and The Guardian. Myers photographs have been published as the monograph Middle

    John Myers (born ) is a British landscape and portrait photographer[1] and painter.[2] Between and he photographed mundane aspects of middle class life in the centre of England—black and white portraits of ordinary people and suburbia within walking distance of his home in Stourbridge.

    Myers self-published this photography in books in and ; then only after renewed critical attention in were more books dedicated solely to his photography published.[3] His work was included in the international survey of photographers, The Photography Book (Phaidon Press, ). Since the early s he has exhibited in the UK and Europe. His work is held in the collection of the Library of Birmingham, in the Arts Council Collection, and in the James Hyman Collection.

    He later gave up photography for painting and had a solo exhibition in at Rugby Art Gallery and Museum.
