Heather Mills' Upbringing
Born on January 12, , in Aldershot, England, Heather Mills grew up in a difficult environment. The relationship between her father Mark, a former paratrooper, and his wife Beatrice was characterised by violence. Before Heather had turned ten her mother became involved with an actor and moved out of the family home, leaving the three children with their abusive father. Three years later, with her father imprisoned for fraud, Heather was back home with her mother.
A headstrong teenager, she didn't get along with her mum's boyfriend, however, and by the age of 17 was living on the streets, apparently in a "cardboard box under Waterloo station". An arrest followed in the mid-Eighties after she stole jewellery worth £20,, and she was put on probation.

Heather Mills, an activist and former model, gained fame in when she began dating legendary musician Paul McCartney. The two announced their engagement in July of , and were married in Ireland on 11 June Their daughter Beatrice Milly was born in October Mills is particularly known for protesting the use of land mines and for leading a campaign to provide prosthetic limbs to victims of war. In Mills was hit by a police motorcycle, which led to the amputation of her own left leg below the knee. Her autobiography Out On a Limb was published in In May of , Mills and McCartney announced that they would separate, saying that life in the public eye had made it &#;increasingly difficult&#; to maintain a normal relationship. Their subsequent divorce negotiations were covered with intense interest by the British press. The divorce was finalized in March of , with Mills getting a settlement of million pounds.
