    Trevor Southey was born in Rhodesia, Africa (now Zimbabwe) in His African heritage can be traced to europeisk colonists who settled in Cape Town, South Africa in the 17th century. In , he emigrated to the United States, retaining an abiding sense of his African and British origins.

    Southey's formal training includes two years at the Brighton College of Art in Sussex, England; a year in Durban, South Africa; and two degrees obtained from Brigham Young University ( and ). He taught at the University through and has since pursued his career independently, although he remains deeply interested in art education giving sporadisk workshops particularly in drawing.

    In , Southey married Elaine Fish of Utah. Their mutual vision and their four children became a vital and critical part of his life and work. For 15 years until their separation and divorce, together they evolved a personal sense of place and beauty in Alpine, Utah.

  • Painter, printmaker, and sculptor Trevor Southey was born in in the Republic of Zimbabwe, known then as Rhodesia, to parents of colonialist Dutch descent. At age fifteen he emigrated to the United States, before relocating to England to study briefly at Brighton College of Art in Sussex. He returned to the States and enrolled at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, where he earned his BA () and MFA (). He then took a position as an art teacher at Brigham Young, where he remained until before focusing on his own art career. 

    Part of Southey's reason for settling in Provo, Utah, was because of his exposure, in Africa, to the Mormon faith. He eventually converted to Mormonism and decided to move with his family to Provo. Here, he added sculpture to his oeuvre and established a following of collectors as well as students for the workshops he held at his studio.
