    Jewish involvement in the First World War was far more extensive than I ever realised. inom discovered this — and many other things — when walking from Switzerland to the North Sea along the old Western Front for my book The Path to Peace .

    As I describe in the book, last year I walked 1,000km from the Swiss border, where the Western Front ended, to the North Sea in Belgium where it began, one million steps, through soil where 10 million died or were so severely injured they could not continue to pick up their ordinary lives again.

    I have spent my life in education, running two schools, Brighton College and Wellington College for 20 years, and then as Vice Chancellor of the University of Buckingham.

    Arthur Seldon, CBE (born Abraham Margolis, 29 May 1916 – 11 October 2005) was joint founder president, with Ralph Harris, of the Institute of Economic Affairs, where he directed editorial affairs and publishing for more than thirty years. He is the father of political author Anthony Seldon.

    Arthur Seldon was born Abraham Margolis in the East End of London to Masha and Pinhas Margolis. They came to Britain from Kiev fleeing the anti-semitic pogroms in 1903 or 1904. Abraham was probably born at Mrs Levy's Maternity Home, Petticoat Lane, near Aldgate, London. Masha and Pinchas Margolis were married in Kiev; he was probably born at Perioslav, a by near Kiev. The family were very poor: Pinchas worked making caps at a Jewish immigrant's factory called Goldstein & Co, Commercial Road, Stepney and they lived at 12 Marks Street, Aldgate.     Sir Anthony Francis SeldonFRSA FRHistS FKC (born 2 August 1953)[1] is a British contemporary historian and educator. As an author, he is known for his political biographies of consecutive British Prime Ministers, John Major, Tony Blair, Gordon Brown, David Cameron, Theresa May, Boris Johnson and Liz Truss, and as an educator, the Master of Wellington College, in Berkshire. Seldon is the author or editor of more than 45 books on contemporary history, politics and education.

    He has been headmaster of independent schools Wellington College, Epsom College and Brighton College.[2] In 2009, he set up The Wellington Academy, the first state school to carry the name of its founding independent school.[3] He was vice-chancellor of the University of Buckingham from 2015 to 2020,[4] when he was succeeded by James Tooley.[5] In 2024, he returned to Wellington College as th
