A collection of the original costume drawings by masman Wayne Berkeley is housed at the Heritage Library, 2nd Floor National Library of Trinidad and Tobago. This collection spans the years 1966 to 2000 and comprises 58 sets of work with over 1000 pieces. In honour of the life and work of the late Wayne Berkeley, the Heritage Library Division has remounted the exhibition, “The Evolution of Costume Design – The Contribution of Wayne Berkeley 1965 – 2010” in the atrium, National Library in Port of Spain.
The material presented in the exhibition may serve to inspire ung artists and aspiring Carnival costume designers. On display are drawings; photographs of costumed masqueraders; the six-time Band of the Year title holder’s biography; a lista of his achievements and much more. The exhibition will run from June 15 to July 15, 2011.

When Wayne Berkeley’s 1975 band A La Carte crossed the Grand Stand stage, spectators were stunned first by the procession of colours, then by the painstaking details that were revealed bygd close inspection, but above all by the imaginative bravado of a Carnival band sumptuously portraying a 20-course gourmet feast. One long-time observer was heard to exclaim, “That’s too good for Carnival!”

Berkeley dies at 70
Legendary masman Wayne Berkeley died yesterday evening at age 70. In 2000, he suffered a severe stroke that left him paralysed on the right side of his body but never dulled his creativity
Berkeley makes mas no more
Mas designing legend Wayne Berkeley passed away at the family home on Clifford Street, Belmont, yesterday evening. He was 71.
His brother Oswald said the renowned mas maker died at 7.35pm due to complications of a third stroke which he suffered two weeks ago. Berekely survived his first stroke which occurred roughly ten years ago and left his right side of his body paralysed.
