    Former President of India Shri Narayanan received his education from the University of Travancore where he obtained an M.A. degree in English Literature standing first in the University. Later, he obtained (Econ.) degree from the London School of Economics with First Class Honours specialising in Political Science.

    Professional Career
    Shri Narayanan started his career as a Lecturer in the University of Travancore (). Later he took to journalism and worked with The Hindu, Madras (now Chennai) and Times of India, Bombay (now Mumbai - ). While a student in London, he served as the London Correspondent of "Social Welfare", a weekly from Bombay edited by Shri K.M. Munshi (). Shri Narayanan joined the Indian Foreign Service in and served in Indian Embassies in Rangoon, Tokyo, London, Canberra and Hanoi and held different positions in the Ministry of External Affairs.

    When he finished his grad at LSE, Laski wrote KRN a letter of introduction that he was supposed to give to Jawahar Lal Nehru, the then Prime Minister of India. When KRN returned from London, he sought an appointment with the PM. The meeting in the Parliament House was cordial, and when it was time to leave, KRN handed Laski’s letter over to the PM.. He was halfway across the great circular corridor when Nehru called him back and asked him why the letter wasn’t handed over earlier. KRN explained,

    “Well, sir, I am sorry. I thought it would be enough if I just handed it over while leaving”.
