Hans Coray
Hans Coray was raised in Zurich, where he completed a doctorate in Romance languages. In the s he began to experiment with metal and wire as an autodidact, applying these techniques to the design of furnishings, industrial products and sculptures. He was closely associated with the artists of Dada and the Concrete Art movement in Zurich, a circle including högsta Bill, Verena Loewensberg and Hans Fischli.
In the summer of , Hans Fischli, who had studied at the Bauhaus, encouraged him to develop models for the official chair of the Swiss National Exhibition – designs that 'should be new in every way'. Over a short period of time, Hans Coray developed two prototypes for 'an all-aluminium chair that can be stacked vertically'. His aim was to create a lightweight and graceful chair that combined an inviting appearance with outstanding comfort. Hans Coray (–) was a Swiss artist and furniture designer, best known for his Landi chair.[1] He was born on 9 June in Wald, Zurich, and died on 22 November in Zurich.
He studied Romance languages at the University of Zurich and obtained his doctorate in
In , he set up as a furniture designer. With Anton Stankowski, Richard P. Lohse, Heiri Steiner, Hans Neuburg, Hans Fischli, Verena Loewensberg, högsta Bill and others, he formed a cultural group in connection with the Zurich School of Concrete.
His most significant planerat arbete is the Landi chair, which was a winning entry for the Swiss National Exhibition of [de]. Coray is known for the functionality and simplicity of his designs, and is considered a pioneer of industrial design.
Since , his Landi chair has featured on a series of Swiss postage stamps that has Swiss "design classic" as its theme.

En , il conçoit pour la première fois des meubles. Avec Anton Stankowski, Richard P. Lohse, Heiri Steiner, Hans Neuburg, Hans Fischli, Verena Loewensberg, Max Bill et d'autres, il forme un cercle culturel en lien avec l'École d'art concret de Zurich(de).

Sa création la plus importante est la chaise Landi(de), qu'il présente lors d'un concours en pour l'Exposition nationale suisse de Coray, qui travaille principalement comme peintre et sculpteur après les années , attache une grande importance à la fonctionnalité et à la simplicité de ses modèles et est considéré comme un pionnier du design industriel[1].
