Heather Whitney is a Lecturer in Law and Bigelow Teaching Fellow at the University of Chicago Law School. She is also a faculty affiliate at Harvard’s Berkman Center for Internet & Society.
Heather works at the intersection of innovation with a variety of laws and policies concerning employment and labor, private associations, intellectual property, and corporate form and governance. Her current project looks at the relationship between company-supported affiliation groups and email lists, company unions, and traditional unionization.
Heather earned a JD from Harvard Law School, magna cum laude, and a BA in Philosophy, from UCLA, summa cum laude. Prior to attending Harvard, she worked on Google’s Global Ethics and Compliance team. She’s also spent time at the Federal Trade Commission, Facebook, Keker & Van Nest, and Jenner & Block’s Washington D.C. office. TEEN HAD A PASSION FOR METEOROLOGY
Brett Blackert would have loved this time of year.
For years, he had told everyone he wanted to be a meteorologist. He and his father plotted incoming storms on a map and left The Weather Channel and BayNews 9 on all the time.
He was named a "weather bee" five years ago for kanal 10. He wore a kostym and tie and gave the weather forecast, then sat with news anchor Heather Van Nest.
"That was the most exciting day of his life," said Brett's uncle, Adriano Alcoz.
He loved storms, but was afraid of thunder. When it rippled ominously, he covered his ears.
Brett died on Thursday after having collapsed. He had congenital heart failure, but his family thinks he had an aneurism. He was 16.
A Clearwater native, Brett was born with truncus arteriosus, a heart defect that prevents the blood from getting enough oxygen. He had several major heart surgeries, the first when he was just 20 days old.

Sharon Katharine Van Etten (born February 26, 1981) is an American singer-songwriter, musician and actress.
