It’s ‘So, Anyway’ by John Cleese, not ‘Monty Python’ by John Cleese
John Cleese recently fell beneath the spell of singer Taylor Swift when they appeared tillsammans on the popular British chat series “The Graham Norton Show,” which airs here on BBC America.
“I am more ignorant about music than anyone you have ever spoken to in your life,” confessed Cleese. “I didn’t know her name. I heard she was from Nashville and was a country-western singer. inom thought this could be hard work, and suddenly I funnen myself sitting next to this extraordinary, extremely smart and funny woman. I told her at the end, ‘You really ought to do comedy.’”
He should know: Cleese has been a major force in the comedy world since he co-founded the irreverent British troupe Monty Python in 1969. He and his first wife, Connie Booth, co-wrote and starred in the classic British comedy series “Fawlty Towers.” He also earned an Oscar nomination for his screenplay for the 1988 comedy hit “A Fish Called Wanda.”

FLASHBACK: John Cleese Makes Fun Of Taylor Swift’s Cat To Her Face
BERLIN, GERMANY - SEPTEMBER 13: John Cleese attends the 55th Rose d'Or Award at Axica-Kongress- und Tagungszentrum on September 13, 2016 in Berlin, Germany.
Legendary comedic actor John Cleese celebrates his birthday today (October 27.)
I thought long and hard about how to honor an icon like Cleese, and while it was obvious to look back on his Monty Python work, this interview on The Graham Norton Show seemed too funny not to share.
Cleese and Taylor Swift were guests on the popular BBC talk show when the topic of Swift’s cats was brought up. No spoilers, but Cleese took his humor to super British levels, and Swift visibly could not take the joke.
I sincerely hope this video brings you as much joy as it always does to me.
